Security Tips From a Locksmith

5 Security Tips from a Master Locksmith

In this article one of our master locksmiths shares 5 simple tips for protecting your home from intruders.

  1. Change your locks. If you have recently moved into a new home or business, consider who have may have previously had keys to the premises. They may have kept copies of the keys and will therefore still be able to gain access. It’s a good idea to install new locks to ensure that previous tenants are unable to use their keys to gain entry.

  2. Always lock your doors. This will make it harder to for intruders to enter your home, and if someone is watching your house, they will see that you always use keys to enter.
  3. Invest in a basic home security system. If someone tries to open exterior doors or windows while the alarm is active, a siren will sound altering yourself and the homes around you. There are also more advanced back-to-base options available, where an alarm monitoring company will contact the police if the alarm is activated.
  4. Install a motion-sensitive light at entrances. These lights turn on when they detect motion and are an affordable security option. Light is a huge deterrent for prowlers.
  5. Keep curtains closed. This will help to prevent people from peeking in and seeing what you have inside. Burglars will be deterred if they can’t establish whether or not you have anything worth stealing.
